Paxton's Select Board set August 10 as the special election date for its proposed budget override after the town clerk said combining it with the September 1 state primary would require a third ballot and double the poll workforce. Chair Julia N. Pingitore and the board also voted unanimously to accept a state-backed conservation restriction on 15.38 acres at 5 Camp Street, presented by Colin Novick of the Greater Worcester Land Trust, extending the town's Boynton Park trail network.
The board approved five year-end transfers moving more than $39,000 into Fire Department accounts, three of them passing 4-1 with an unexplained abstention. Members also expanded the Anna Maria College Transition Advisory Committee to 11 seats and appointed Vice Chair Jeffrey Wentzell, Town Administrator Robert Burkbeck and six others, with Finance Committee and DPW seats still pending. Town Administrator Burkbeck stressed the override "gets us until August 10th" regardless of the June 22 town meeting outcome.
