Paxton Finance Panel Elects Cox as New Clerk
Finance Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Paxton Finance Committee learns town owes $98,000 after Anna Maria College's bankruptcy. Town Administrator Robert told the committee the obligation, tied to unpaid pension and health care costs, must be paid by year's end even though the town is an unsecured creditor behind Citizens Bank's roughly $17 million claim. "I don't think Citibank is going to take a haircut so we can get our $98,000," one member said.
The panel also elected Betty Cox as clerk, reviewed a chart showing six override votes in 27 months, and heard Capital Improvement Planning Committee Chairman Neil Bagdis warn that a Public Safety Complex boiler "is not functioning" and will likely need Reserve Fund money. The Police Department Review ad hoc committee's charge has slipped to October 5, and fiscal 2027 budget cuts of $389,286 did not fully match the final warrant article.
