Paxton Select Board began planning for Anna Maria College's permanent closure, which Chair Peter Bogren, Jr. said could cost the town more than $1 million a year. Bogren told the board the college, closing at the end of the fiscal year on June 30, 2026, makes up roughly 10 percent of Paxton's electric and water billing, raising concerns about rate hikes for remaining customers. Auditor Terenzio Volpecelli of Roselli Clark & Associates reported a clean audit opinion, with the town's net position up $600,000 to $10.8 million.
The board also fielded criticism over delinquent Anna Maria police-service payments; Town Administrator Robert Birkbeck said the college fell five months behind, not eight, and had required $540,344 in warrants while awaiting reimbursement. Bogren called the inquiry "inflammatory" during a lengthy on-camera rebuttal.
