Select Board · Meeting of June 1, 2026
Paxton Select Board scheduled an emergency Thursday session to finalize warrant articles after an override failure left a roughly $316,000 budget gap. Finance Committee representative Mark told the board the deficit had shrunk from $366,000 after Wachusett Regional School District cut $50,000 from its assessment, but warned the numbers "will change markedly" after Wednesday's Finance Committee meeting. Town Administrator Robert said he built a contingency budget using overlay funds and ambulance receipts, after exhausting the town's usual cushion for unexpected costs, partly driven by two police officers out on injured-on-duty leave who must be paid in full while their shifts are also covered.
The board approved four year-end transfers totaling $55,486.94 into deficit snow-removal accounts and continued discussion of appointments to the new Anna Maria College Transition Advisory Committee, with Bert Clark, Tony Dominic and Mike Benoit already named. Member Steven Rebesco abstained on one consent vote. The board set Thursday, June 4 at 5 p.m. to close the warrant ahead of the June 22 special town meeting.
