Charter Panel Books Two May Meetings
Paxton's Charter Review Committee tabled its review process after a warning about open meeting law risks.
Other Committee · Meeting of April 13, 2026
Paxton's Charter Review Committee tabled its review process after a warning about open meeting law risks. Committee member Dave told colleagues an Attorney General's office attorney said a prior plan to have two or three members review draft charter language outside a posted meeting "looks like the whole committee is trying to essentially subvert the process." Member Chuck said he favors a two- or three-person review group, while member Paul argued the real problem is the committee's one-hour meeting length. Dave said he has personally reviewed about 80 municipal charters while drafting Paxton's version.
Members approved the prior meeting's minutes unanimously and booked their next sessions for 5:45 p.m. May 5 and May 12, after ruling out dates tied to the town's May 4 town meeting and May 11 election.
