Charter panel finalizes select board duties article

Other Committee · Meeting of August 27, 2026

Paxton's Charter Review Committee finished marking up the draft charter's select board article, adding a citizens engagement committee and a strategic-planning mandate. The panel, now five members after the Select Board approved cutting it from seven, still aims to finish the full charter rewrite by the end of 2026. Committee member Robert, who said he served as the town's emergency management director from 2004 to 2009, backed a new requirement that the Select Board keep a current, regularly updated emergency management plan, calling the town's existing plan "a very solid plan." Members struck an unenforceable $50 fine for withheld records and declined to add individual employee salaries to the annual town report, with one member calling that "a breach of confidentiality." The committee approved its August 11 minutes and adjourned unanimously at 7:30 p.m., with its next session set for September 8.
