PAXTON — The Paxton Charter Review Committee declined to recommend waiving its rule against members serving on other town boards for a prospective new member, sending the question to the Select Board instead. Member Gary said an applicant who also sits on another committee "has a potential bias that we may not even know about," while member Chuck noted he turned down a Recreation Commission seat to avoid that conflict. The five-member panel, chartered for seven seats, unanimously approved its May 12 minutes and a motion to adjourn.
It also kept draft language on the Capital Improvements Planning Committee's makeup unchanged after Town Administrator Robert Birkbeck confirmed no statute dictates its structure beyond allowing the town administrator an ex officio vote. Birkbeck separately said the library must receive "102.5 percent of the previous three years' average budgets" to qualify for state matching funds, prompting the committee to hold off on exempting the library from a "promptly paid" funds provision.
